Concerned over the escalation of ‘communal tension” between the Sumis and Zeliangrongs, Naga Hoho termed the exchange of inflammatory statements between the two, as devoid of “oneness and common cause” and asserted that that Ntangki did not belong to any individual or tribe but a national property for all Naga generations.
Naga Hoho president Keviletuo Kiewhuo and general secretary P.Chuba Ozukum regretted that when Nagas were striving for permanent peace they were entrapped with different problems and stressed on the need for oneness. The Hoho also appealed to both Sumis and Zeliangrongs to exercise utmost restraint and respect fellow brethren in the search for harmony based on Naga traditional method of solving conflicts.
The Hoho reminded that it had strongly reaffirmed that the common desire of all Nagas was for unity at its 9th general conference in Peren in 2008 which was based on mutual respect for each other’s community territorial space and boundaries.It said the resolution also acknowledged traditional ownership be firmly established and respected, while acknowledging the “rights of settlement of any Naga throughout Naga homeland.”
The Hoho also said it had endorsed the “joint declaration” of the Naga Hoho, ENPO, government and legislators at its 3rd Federal assembly on July 7,2010 in Mokokchung,to protect and preserve Ntangki Forest and said it would also apply the same with respect of all “national properties.”
Hoho asserted it would strongly protest against encroachment of people’s territories and properties and appealed to the state government to bring a logical conclusion for safeguarding Ntangki National Park in the interest of common people.
