The opposition Congress in Peren district has come out strongly against the prevailing practice and overall decision making system of Peren district planning board. ACCI in a press communiqué signed by its president, Kerangau and vigilance member, Kiezin, termed the monthly meeting of DPDB as “slowly degrading in its values”, and urged the district board to “grow up and start focusing on pertinent issues facing the district and bring about changes worth publicly mentioning”
The Congress while categorically objecting the resolution of the last DPDB meeting of Peren district where a decision was made to collect one day wages from all heads of departments down to grade III staff of all government employees in the district, said many decisions of previous DPDB meetings were not “worthwhile”, adding it does not wish to “interfere”.
“However, this time, taking a collective decision in such meeting as DPDB to deduct salary for an eye camp is beyond the purview of DPDB. Let whichever organization which has the calculative plan and fund to organize any event do so in their own capacity”, stated the communiqué and said “bringing up such agendas in DPDB and getting funds by extracting people’s salary is next to extortion which is no more practiced in the modern society”.
The opposition therefore appealed the members present in the DPDB meeting to be cautious in resolving agendas and never be a “yes boss” in making important decisions. It also appealed the board to immediately withdraw their decision of deducting one day wage of district government employees for organizing a medical eye camp since such practices have become “odd” and the DPDB cannot always continue to support such agendas in the future.
