Tsüngremmong festival celebrated

Kohima Longsa Senso Telongjem (KLST) Wednesday celebrated Tsüngremmong, premier festival of the Ao Nagas, with traditional pomp and gaiety at Yim Ki near Zoological Park Kohima.
Advisor MTF and NKVIB chairman MLA Dr. Nicky Kire, who graced the occasion as chief guest, extolled the celebration stating that the activities of the festival were educating. Asserting that Aos were the frontrunners of the Naga people in various fields including church ministry, Dr. Kire called upon them to work together with others so as to bridge the gap among Naga tribes. He also urged them to show other tribes their way of life so that Nagas could attain unity.
Meanwhile, lauding the KLST on completing 36 years of its establishment, Dr. Kire said the Telongjem displayed unity and feeling for eachother as a community, and further urged them to propagate the same approach with other communities. Additional chief secretary & development commissioner Nagaland Alemtemshi Jamir also exhorted the festive gathering. He said the essence of the Tsüngremmong festival implied a basic lesson for men to be righteous.
Earlier, various cultural activities were exhibited at the celebration while the significance of the festival was delivered by Kazükaba Jamir and vote of thanks pronounced by additional development commissioner Nagaland Temsuwati Longkumer.
Unger village: ‘Tsungremmong’ festival was celebrated at Unger village Yangyang Lenden on August 2, organised by Unger Mopongsanger Tatar with parliamentary secretary for rural development and REPA, Pangnyu Phom as the chief guest and chairman NIDC and Nagaland Hotel Limited, Nuklutoshi as the guest of honour. Delivering his speech, Pangnyu Phom called upon the gathering to preserve rich culture, which has been practiced by forefathers. Nuklutoshi Chairman NIDC also spoke on the occasion and extended Tsungremmong greetings to the gathering. Representatives from Chuchuyimlang, Yajang, Akhoya and Kilinglen Village Councils also spoke on the occasion. Significance of Tsungremmong festival was delivered by T. Imti Tatar.
Other highlights of the programme included cultural songs by Moponglatsür and Culture dance display by Unger Youth Cultural Club and Unger Kosasanger. Host of dignitaries, government officers, and public leaders attended the festival.
