After the withdrawal of all the inter-district police check gates, the state capital has been witnessing increasing cases of vehicle theft.
According to police sources, there have been so far three cases of vehicles (Bolero) theft reported in and around the state capital during the past few days. However, with the withdrawal of inter-district check gates, preventions or detections of such vehicle theft become difficult for the state police.
On the other hand, with the step up in security, police have so far detected and arrested three underground cadres each from both NSCN factions and FGN during the past few days while serving demand notes or extorting money from business establishments, the official said, adding police would continue to maintain vigil keeping in mind the forthcoming Independence Day.
Kohima police advisory
Meanwhile, the Kohima police have issued advisory in view of the recent incident involving the theft of two abandoned Boleros in the capital.
The police have advised all vehicle owners not to leave their vehicles, unattended, and a driver of reliable background should always be made to attend to the vehicle whenever on duty. It also asked all vehicle owners (especially Boleros) to make arrangements for secure garages at their residence.
All the vehicle owners have also been encouraged to avail GPS services which were available at affordable prices from various private firms.
Police said cooperation and support toward these measures would ultimately ensure an effective check on car lifting in the state capital.
