Following completion of its second phase agitation against recent retention and regularization of teachers under SSA and failure on the part of the state government and education department in fulfilling its demands, Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) Thursday said demonstration in the districts of Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire and Longleng and sub-divisions of Shamator and Noklak went by without any untoward incident solely because the efforts of the district administration and the police department.
A press release issued by ENSF general secretary Changsang Soted stated that the federation’s second phase agitation Thursday culminated with closing down of all DEO, DIS and DMA (SSA) offices in all the four districts of the Eastern Nagaland. ENSF stated the respective offices would remain locked till August 12, with strict participation and monitoring of the ENSF and its federating units at respective jurisdictions.
The stir was launched in resentment towards the state government and the department of school education’s failure to address and fulfill the five point charter of demands of ENSF.
Federation maintained that the phase wise agitation was called against the recent “random” retention and regularization of teachers (both GTs and PTs) across the state and deployment of the same within its Jurisdiction in bulk, overlooking repeated government notifications and subsequent neglect of assurances and commitment made by the department.
ENSF stated that further failure on the part of the government and the department in addressing its charter of demands would lead to “more grievances, complications and resentment” of the general public towards the government and the department.
Further, the ENSF cautioned that its second phase agitation might culminate in “harsher and more complicated” third phase of agitation which has been tentatively fixed to be initiated from August 13.
It warned that failure of the department and government to address and fulfill its charter of demands at the earliest would compel the federation to initiate third phase agitation which would engage “different forms and nature” and prolonged further with “wide ramifications”.
Meanwhile, the ENSF has directed all its federating units to be prepared for the third phase of its agitation if the federation’s demands were not fulfilled. Federation also requested the general public to bear with inconveniences caused as a result of its agitation.
ENSF stir enters day 2

MON/ TUENSANG, AUG 11 (NPN): The first day of the second phase agitation of ENSF began Thursday by locking and picketing the offices of the SSA, DEO and DIS at Mon Hq. and DIS offices at Aboi and Tobu.
In Mon, about 1000 volunteers took part in the agitation.
According to sources, the student body resorted to picketing as government failed to respond within “fifteen-day ultimatum” it had served on government which expired August 9.
It was also learnt that picketing of education offices would continue till 4 p.m. August 12.
The agitation passed off peacefully, without any untoward incident, till the time of filing this report.
In Tuensang, hundreds of ENSF volunteers Thursday gathered at the premises of DEO and DIS office Tuensang and later locked the offices.
The ENSF stated it will continue with their further step of agitation till government responds positively.
