Over thousand people Friday evening staged a massive candlelight rally here from Deluxe Point to Clock Tower to express their solidarity with the veteran Gandhian and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare demanding for “strong” Jan Lokpal Bill.

People from all walks of life raising slogans and holding placards, some of which read “We Dimapurians stand against corruption with Anna”, “We want revolution against corruption”, “We want corruption free India” proceeded to clock tower junction.
After reaching the junction, coordination committee civil society Dimapur president R.K. Nair read out the memorandum in support of a “strong Lokpal Bill”, which would be submitted to President Pratibha Patil, through DC Dimapur.

Speaking at the rally, Naga Council Dimapur president Savi Liegise said “this simple moment of expression of solidarity” with Anna Hazare and his noble crusade against corruption through a peaceful candle light procession in Dimapur was the “most timely, relevant, historic and important” for all the people of Dimapur and Nagaland in general.

Savi said victory of Hazare and his team would reverberate across the country and would usher in hope and opportunity in all spheres of life.
Describing Hazare and his team as ‘anti-biotic’ against the virus of corruption, Savi said if there were anyone in urgent need of healing against corruption, then it was indeed Nagaland.

Meanwhile, DCCI president Hokhivi Chishi, representative from Dimapur Women Association and Muslim Council, members of Bengali Hindu Community, Patanjali Yog Samiti and Bharat Swabhiman Trust Dimapur, Helper’s Club, Hindu Seva Samiti and Midland colony GB K. Sema also attended the candlelight march. Sumi Students’ Union Dimapur president Nihoi Kinni on behalf of the union also extended their support to Anna Hazare.
