Tikhir students’ union (TSU) and Tikhir students’ union Kiphire (TSUK) have vehemently condemned the alleged abduction of four Tikhirs by the so-called Yimchungru Liberation Front (YLF) August 29 from High Bridge between Sikur and Lasukiur, while they were travelling from Waphur to Kiusum to attend Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) meeting at Kiusum.
Among the four kidnapped, two were released August 29 and the other two, who were still held hostage, were reportedly rescued by the police August 30.
TSU in a statement issued by its executive council chairman Anthony Tsanmong Tikhir and president R. Daniel Tikhir claimed that the abduction was “obviously a well planned” saying the incident once again “reminded everyone that Yimchungrüs have not given up their inhuman (most uncivilized tactics).”
The union warned Yimchungrus that henceforth Tikhirs would not tolerate against such acts, adding they have had enough in the past.
Meanwhile, applauding the administration and police for taking steps and releasing the victims, the TSU further urged the authorities responsible to apprehend “those armed Yimchungrüs” as per the law, otherwise, the union cautioned, the Tikhirs would take befitting action against those culprits.
TSU also appealed to ENPO and ENSF to intervene and initiate necessary action as the incident occurred in their jurisdiction.
Also, strongly condemning the abduction, the Tikhir students’ union Kiphire (TSUK) alleged that heavily armed YLF members, in full combat uniform, have been mobilizing in and around the region for many years and “haunted” many innocent Tikhirs by harassing, kidnapping and torturing.
The TSUK asked if YLF was given authority by government or any faction to use arms and create situation.
It stated that when all the factions have resolved to reconcile in the interest of Naga nationalism in the spirit of peace love and understanding, the YLF was inviting violent situation in an attempt to break peaceful atmosphere among the Naga brothers.
Reminding that TTC and TSU had submitted three-point memorandum to the government demanding fulfillment within August 31, the TSUK accused Yimchungru people of crossing all limits of “government law” and started violent situation, which it described was direct challenge to the state government. The TSUK also appealed to the law enforcing agencies to arrest YFL members and initiate stern action.
