With the rest of 13 states in the country, Nagaland would be launching ‘measles catch up campaign’ in October to make the target age group children immune from measles and reduce deaths from measles. During the three weeks campaign all children who have completed 9 months of age and are below 10 years of age will be given measles vaccination irrespective of their prior measles immunization status or disease history.
According to official sources, the campaign was carried out in Phek district in February as a pilot project. Having seen active involvement of village functionaries in the campaign, centre has taken Phek as a model for entire country.
In Mokokchung, District Task Force (DTF) on Measles Catch up campaign, headed by DC Lithrongla G. Chishi has been constituted. DTF meeting was held on September 7 in the DC’s conference hall to chalk out programme for the campaign.
She requested district immunization officer to gear up village functionaries and Anganwai workers to bring in their active involvement and asked chief medical officer, Mokokchung to obtain report from all villages, Schools and towns on status of vaccination to assess the actual coverage of targeted group by November 10.
DIO Mokokchung, Dr. Limatula said schools will be covered in the first week of the campaign.
