In another Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) scandal, one non-local woman (30), a divorcee and resident of Signal Basti was shown in a compromising position and widely circulated through MMS by the same person who was involved in the scam. Police identified the man as one Dipankar Roy (28), a footwear vendor, of Assam presently residing at Lomithi colony Dimapur.
Roy, who was arrested on November 12, told police that he shot the MMS with the consent of the divorcee who had agreed to go to bed with him on payment of `400 and also to have their act filmed. He said the woman had met him while he was on his way home and invited him.
Roy also confessed that he circulated the MMS to friends with his mobile phone.
On the contrary, the woman claimed that they knew each other for the past one year and that the accused insisted on meeting her at hotel Citizen at New Market on that particular day.
She also claimed that she was unaware that Roy was filming the video on his mobile and that she only came to know after police contacted her.
Talking to reporters, the officer in-charge East Police Station, Atu Zumvü said police learnt about the circulation of the MMS on November 12 and contacted the woman who in turn led them to the accused.
He said the accused was arrested on the same day and charged under Section 67A IT Act 2008, which carried a penalty of five years imprisonment with a fine of `10 lakh (for the first offence).
It may be mentioned that after the initialization of IT Act in the state, four cases have already been registered with Dimapur police while one case was registered with Kohima police.
