Who says a man can survive without a woman? It’s proved wrong and hence for survival and to make the foundation of a family the strength of a woman is very much needed to carry forward the legacy of one’s generation.
This was startlingly evident here at the inauguration of the Nagaland Police Family Welfare (NPFW) exhibition-cum sale at Hockey ground, NAPTC, Chumukedima on Monday where all the men folk soon after the opening ceremony of the XXXII Nagaland police duty-cum sports and athletic meet 2011 flocked to the site of the exhibition put up by the Nagaland Police Family Welfare Association (NPFWA) to morally support their spouses.
Altogether it had 26 morungs/stalls that represented the different contingents.
All for the welfare of the police families, the trade fair was held so that they learn things which may benefit them economically and socially. The NPFWA also tends to look into and try to help police families in times of need and to involve the police wives and children in different sphere of activities.
The exhibition-cum sale function was inaugurated by wife of DGP Neithou Kire accompanied by her husband DGP K. Kire himself. She visited the 26 stalls and received gifts/tokens from almost all the stalls.
The stalls had items like traditional woven jackets, accessories, furniture, biscuits, dried flowers, potteries, cane-baskets, local vegetables and fruits, doughnuts, muras, meat pickles, stitched clothes, wooden spoons, mekhalas, shawls, fruit wine etc., that were displayed for sale not only for people living under that jurisdiction but civilians as well.
The NPFWA had put up the exhibition stall on a competition level after a gap of 7years while the flower arrangement competition was organized for the first time.
In the flower arrangement competition category, the 1st place was bagged by 5th NAP; 2nd place by 11th NAP (IR) and 3rd place by 2nd NAP with cash prizes of `3000, `2000 and `1000 respectively.
The panel of judges for the flower arrangement were Renchilo Ezung, wife of ADGP (OPS); Nancy Kikon, wife of DIGP (NPTO) and Akole Mero wife of DIG Hqr.
Every participating stall would also get `2000.
The results of the stall competition would be announced only at the closing ceremony. State Chief Secretary Lalthara who visited the stalls emphasized on equal important responsibilities and activities among the police fraternity.
He mentioned handicrafts in the domestic sector could spruce up employment opportunities and encouraged people to take up such activities instead complaining about being unemployed.
Interacting with this reporter, DGP K. Kire said that the purpose of having such family welfare exhibition was initiated so that the personnel including their wives and children have a recreational time by bringing their products, exhibit for sell.
Kire also said, “We have never thought of letting this show go beyond the police fraternity and at the state level such shows are also there but so far we have never participated in the state level, this is more or less confined to the police department only”.
Asked how different the competition was from the incessant entertainment contest/shows in Nagalnd, he said “Of course they (NPFWA) have also put in a lot of effort trying to get all this handicrafts. The clothes, the baggage which you all have seen is quite laborious also but then if you want to achieve in any field, you have to work hard and give your best”.
If discipline is the need of hour in society, then the best exemplar could be learnt from the grand police ceremonial fête that was carried out stupendously.
The competition for the best indigenous will take place on Tuesday at 10:30am and each participant from the different contingents will be vying for the contest, and who knows, few lucky ones might get a chance to relish the food besides the judges who will be judging in terms of taste, flavor and presentation.
