New biodiversity reserve inaugurated at Akomen village

‘Ait’ biodiversity reserve at Akomen village, Mokokchung organized & sponsored by Humane Touch (HT) a govt registered NGO was inaugurated by Parliamentary Secy, Housing, labour & Employment Er. T.Saku Aier, Saturday.

Speaking as the chief guest, Er. T. Saku urged the villagers to be responsible and active citizens towards the conservation of flora and fauna that are found in abundance within the reserve.

He also emphasized on the need for village community to be sensitized about some rare animals that are speculated to be found in the reserve and also lauded the members of HT for their effortless work in the conservation of biodiversity.

DFO Mokokchung, Yashi Ao spoke on the various aspects/works related to the concept of biodiversity. Chairman HT, Meren Imchen deliberated that ‘Ait’ in Ao dialect means a place where all animals and birds come to drink salt water and mud. Meren also mentioned that endangered animal like ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Hollock Gibbon’ were speculated to be found in the biodiversity reserve.

The inaugural function was attended by host of dignitaries and program was chaired by member of HT Lima Longchar. Rtd. Conservator of Forests IFS T. Sosang also spoke on the occasion.
