ATMA Kuhuboto Block under Dimapur district conducted a training programme on “rodent pest management” on February 7 where more that 50 farmers participated. The training emphasized on different control measures of rodent.
Among the many different species of rodents, the training mainly focused on rat control by resource person, Bendanglila APP, DAO Office Dimapur.
The resource person also highlighted that are mechanical, biological and chemical control and animals such as snake, eagle, cat, fox etc can be implemented in biological control. However, among the animals, cat played a major role in biological control.
Many chemicals used for controlling the population of rats but the most effective and widely used chemicals is zinc phosphate. “They are acute and highly poisonous chemical thus killing the rat by accelerating the rate of blood flow and causing heart fail”, she added. After the training, zinc phosphate was distributed to all participants free of cost.
Earlier, the keynote address was delivered by Ahovi Sema, DAO and PD (ATMA) Dimapur.
