Hundreds of people thronged Zhadima primary health centre on June 1 to avail various health services as the district health society, Kohima, along with the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) conducted a health mela cum sterilization camp and observance of anti-malaria month at Zhadima PHC.
Chaired by Dr. Akhra Sekhose, MO, Zhadima, awareness on Revised National Tuberculosis Program (RNTCP) was delivered by Dr. Vezokholu, district tuberculosis officer where she emphasized on importance of chest symptomatic cases to undergo sputum test for early detection of TB.
She also added that adherence to full course of treatment with the first line drugs was the key to curing TB and preventing emergence of multi-drug resistance.
Dr. Atsung, district program officer, NVBDCP, spoke on the need for control of malaria and the facilities provided by the programme.
Dr. L. Ralte, chief medical officer, in her exhortation reminded the gathering of the responsibilities of each and everyone in bringing about health awareness to uplift the health of the society in general and for contribution of the individual in particular.
Dr. Nyan Kikon spoke on the need for community participation for bringing about sustainable health care services through their participation and active contribution.
The special guest, K.T Vilie, village council chairman, Zhadima, thanked the society for the conduct of such camps and requested the public to take full advantage of such platform.
Family Planning Association of India FPAI, Nagaland branch, provided services on contraception like IUD/copper T, oral pills, urine pregnancy tests and family planning counseling besides quiz competition amongst participants covering different topics on sexual reproductive health like ANC, family planning, contraception and HIV and AIDS with prizes, besides films on health matters were also screened.
Altogether 543 patients from Zhadima and surrounding villages and habitations availed the services. 167 blood slides were collected and tested for malaria, 57 clients were counseled and tested for HIV and 14 Laparascopy Ligation (family planning) were conducted by Naga hospital authority team led by Dr. Imotemsu, senior gynecologist.
Incentives were also given to the patients who availed sterilization. The camp was conducted by 12 doctors and included NRHM and NSACS team of the district.
Healthy India, Doordarshan Kohima as part of its media role in generating awareness on various health programme, activities and facilities of the government also covered the entire event which would be telecast on June 4 at 6:30 pm.
