In Nagaland, Kohima and Mokokchung districts have been selected for implementing NSSP, under which 200 schools from each districts would be sensitized on disaster management.

Ao IAS who also attended the meeting interacted with the district officials in a bid to help acquaint themselves with NSSP.

In recent years, schools in India have witnessed many catastrophic incidents leading to death of hundreds of people including students and teachers due to high vulnerabilities of buildings such as school buildings to natural hazards.

As such, the centre came up with an idea to launch NSSP to promote a culture of disaster preparedness in schools and give top most importance on school buildings in the entire country.

According to NSDMA, at least one teacher from selected schools will be provided necessary training through whom, disaster preparedness and response plans would be developed within the school environment.

Under the programme, structural vulnerability of the school buildings, which is often root cause of death and injury of school children, would be given importance.
