Manipur police late Monday recovered the Nagaland vehicle which was hijacked from Senapati district by some miscreants after drugging and robbing the driver and his friend on June 21 last .

A police report said that the vehicle was recovered from Wangjing area of Thoubal district of Manipur by a team of Mao police station of Senapati district with the assistant of the police commandos attached with the Thoubal district police Monday.

Sources said the hijackers were still absconding. However, it was reported that Mao police detained the brother of the owner of the Maruti car reportedly used by the hijackers for interrogation. A case would be registered and necessary action against the accused would be taken up, the source added.

The police officer who led the team could not be contacted due to bad communication and Thoubal police commandos involved in the vehicle recovery operation refused to divulge further details of the operation stating that they were assisting the Mao police only.

On June 21, some miscreants suspected to be Muslim youths from Mainpur’s Thoubal district hijacked the vehicle after the vehicle was hired under the pretext of taking lifting potato bags from Kohima.

The hijackers reportedly requested the driver Keneinguto Mejura (22) and Ikuto Kappo (17), both hailing from Phesama village of Nagaland to drop them upto Tadubi of Manipur’s Senapati district. After reaching Tadubi, they once again requested the driver to drop them upto Maram where they were offered cold drink laced with drug to make the driver and his friend unconscious.

The victim had lodged no complaint regarding the incident but the police acted based on reliable information about the hijacking of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Mao Council has lauded the two police stations Mao Gate and Wangoi and Manipur police commandos for the prompt and efficient services in tracing the vehicle that was robbed off after the driver and his friend were drugged between Tadubi and Maram on June 21.

The Council while commending the sincerity and prompt action of the police urged the government agencies to nab the culprits responsible at the earliest and award befitting punishment as per the law of the land.
