Sisterhood Network (SN), an NGO working under the motto ‘Helping One Another’, conducted a passing out program after the successful completion of its orientation training course. The programme was held at Anchor Complex, Dimapur, which was attended by well-wishers, family and management of Sisterhood Network.
Altogether 5 girls completed the vocational training program of four months which is being imparted twice a year.
A unique feature of this training is its holistic approach. Girls from less privileged backgrounds are taught social, emotional, economic and spiritual skills necessary to survive and even excel in the world.
Special guest for the event was A. Sentiyula Along, Assistant Professor of English, Dimapur Government College, a longtime well wisher of Sisterhood Network.
Stating that Sisterhood Network was about helping each other through exchange of information and passing on skills, she exhorted the young girls to ponder on their past when they were considered less privileged, where they stand in the present; as privileged and empowered women, and how they should visualise themselves in the future; as more privileged or as leaders.
She offered some pointers as how to go about applying the skills and knowledge they have acquired.
The girls were encouraged to assess their strengths and weaknesses and to make the effort to remove their weaknesses because this will hinder their future progress, she said. Further, once they decide to do something, they should never give up.
She also emphasised on the importance of setting a specific goal quoting “A vision is where you are going, a plan is how to get there.” Above all, every task at hand should start with a prayer for God is the source of all our strength and when He guides and leads, there is no opportunity to fail”.
The speaker also appreciated the staff of Sisterhood Network whom she called sincere, hardworking, critical-minded, courageous and God-fearing women. She wished them success in their future ventures and hoped that they will live up to their potential and facilitate in creating a movement for women’s rights in Nagaland.
The girls who passed out are Tiakala Chopsa, Sademmongla Jamir, Meyamenla Longkumer, Elinungla Phom and Shilulemla Ao. A special song was also presented by the Orientation girls. Prayer of blessing was offered by Alongla Aier, Associate Professor Oriental Theological College, Bade.
The programme was chaired by Ren Kithan, invocation by Renemla Ozukum, welcome and introduction by Azung Imsong and benediction by Nukshila, women pastor.
