Report carried out in national and local news dailies on Monday wherein three Nagas were taken to custody after allegedly attacking a Delhi Policeman on duty in Central Delhi, has been refuted by family members.
Talking to Nagaland Post, the sister of Mezulhou Solo (46)– who was taken to custody, described the news report as factually incorrect and highly exaggerated.
She pointed out that following an altercation, there was a scuffle between Solo’s son–Justin (22) with a Delhi Police constable identified as Daleep,
The incident happened on Saturday early morning when Justin had dropped some cousins after his birthday celebration. On driving back home, she said Justin was stopped by the police constable manning a picket.
She further said the police personnel hurled abuses at Justin and mocked how people from north east could live in a posh area and drive fancy cars.
Further, Solo’s sister recalled that Justin used to complain to his parents about the particular policeman who used to harass him whenever he drove past the picket.
On Saturday morning around 2.40 a.m., on being harassed again, Justin told his parents how he was again humiliated and vowed to go and confront the policeman.
Despite his parents’ plea to forget about the incident, Justin however went back along with one of his relatives (Set Sari, 19) to confront Daleep.
Mezhulhou, who sensed trouble, ran after his son but he had already reached the spot. When the scuffle was on, another police personnel present at the picket called for back up and took them to the police station, she said.
According to Mezulhou’s wife, police personnel went to their residence after the incident and asked for her husband’s clothes (for him to change into) and left with the car (Maruti Esteem) which was parked outside the house.
Later, upon query the police constable confessed that Mezulhou was not involved in the fracas and was innocent.
Meanwhile, according to family sources, a lawyer by the name “SP Singh Mahley”, had called and asked them to go to Patiala House if they wanted to meet the father, son and the relative. On reaching the place, they were informed that three had already been shifted to Tihar jail.
“Being a Sunday, police station was closed for filing FIR. The lawyer somehow filed an FIR and showed some documents, saying he could help. He also charged Rs. 2000 as token fee,” family sources said.
