Department of sericulture has conducted a five days training for beneficiary empowerment of sericulture farmers under CDP at district office Tuensang from July 9-13.
During the training, farmers were encouraged to take up sericulture activities not only worm rearing for pupa and cocoon production but to go further on post cocoon process.
The department advised the farmers not to leave or destroyed the cocoon after pupa extraction but to sell it to the department.
Sericulture is an ‘eco friendly agro- based industry’ which can employ a large numbers of unemployed youths, women even handicap, disabled and landless share cropper can be profitably engaged and provide scope for fast and sustainable economic growth.
Demonstration programme on Eri host plants cultivation and Eri silkworm rearing technology was also done at government Seri farm Tuensang village, during the training.
The trainees also visited one progressive Eri rearer farm at Bazaar C Tuensang town. Topics covered at the training were mainly on pre cocoon activities and its revenue generation. Altogether, 38 farmers from various villages participated at the five day training.
