Chakhro Angami Kuda Youth Organization (CAKYO) has cautioned Nagaland advocate general (AG) K.N. Balgopal from further spreading “rumour” for the purpose of damaging the career of advocate Edward Belho, the state’s standing counsel in the Supreme Court.

The organization has also supported the stand of its parent body CAKU over the issue of the AG’s alleged “manipulation” against Belho who was a “loyal government servant”.

In a statement, CAKYO president Thejangulie Angami said Belho was a competent lawyer and he was also well known for his honesty and efficiency.

Stating that Belho enjoyed the full confidence of the state government, CAKYO expressed dismay over the AG’s “dreadful plan” to remove Belho from the current post. CAKYO called upon all Naga intellectuals, NGOs and tribal hohos to cut across tribal lines and condemn such an “irresponsible” move by the AG.

CAKYO also alleged that the AG had failed to protect and preserve the traditional rights of the Nagas under Article 371 (A) of the constitution.

CAKYO warned that any attempts to “sell any Naga tribal rights” for personal gain would only invite unwanted situation.
