‘Debating skill essential in democratic country’

Kohima district level debate competition was held at Deputy Commisioner’s conference hall Kohima on the topic “Kohima district is developing” with Kiyanilie Peseyie Speaker NLA as the chief guest on Friday.

Kiyanilie in his address encouraged the students to develop debating skill as it is essential in a democratic country like ours.

He said healthy debate would bring about some changes and benefit to the society and also congratulated DPDB Kohima for organizing the debate competition which gives platform for students to participate and benefit themselves.

In the debate competition, the first prize was bagged by Aseno Terhüja (class 12) of Don Bosco HSS where she received a certificate and cash award of Rs. 3,000, 2nd prize was bagged by Kevimesanuo Esther (class 11) of Christ King HSS and was awarded a certificate and Rs. 2,000 while 3rd prize was bagged by Vikenoto Ltu (class 12) of Mezhür HSS and was awarded a certificate and Rs. 1,000.

The three consolation prize winners were Tsiavisa Nyuthe (class 11) of Northfield HSS, Nancy Seb (class 12) of Govt. HSS Tseminyu and Khrielasier Liezietsu (Class 12) of Grace HSS. Each of them received a certificate and Rs. 500 each.

The programme was compeered by Avelü Rüho SDO (C) Sechü, welcome address by Khesheli Yethomi DEO Kohima & convener district education committee DPDB and K. Mary Dzüvichü SDEO Kohima proposed the vote of thanks.

Altogether 14 higher secondary schools participated along with their teachers, where one student from each school took part in debate.

Panel of judges were Zeneikhonuo Vimero SDO (C) Jakhama convener, Japet Woch SDO (C) Tseminyu and Zapuno Sophie EAC Botsa.

Later, prizes were given away by the chief guest. Vikho-o Yoshü MLA, Bei-u Angami Kohima DC and Dr. Nicky Kire MLA were also present in the programme.
