Altogether 29 Scouts and 23 guides from three districts, Kohima, Wokha and Tuensang were awarded the state highest ‘Rajya Purashkar’ on the occasion of Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides (NSBSG) foundation day on Wednesday at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan graced by Governor of Nagaland Nikhil Kumar.
Addressing the award ceremony as chief guest, the Governor who is also the chief patron of Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides (NSBSG) congratulated the awardees for their excellent performances and contributions to society.
He said the scout and guide movement always stood by the people contributing to the peace and happiness of the society and play an important role with the spirit of service and sacrifice.
The governor said NSBSG movement was not only for the state but the whole world and wished that people of the state would join hands towards better governance, social progress, prosperity and development of the state.
He also congratulated Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu who will be receiving the “Silver Elephant” award, the highest national award for senior scouts and guides leader in the India union.
Ex-MP and state chief commissioner, NSBSG Khyomo Lotha, delivered the introductory note and significance of the day.
Lotha said the scout movement which started with an experimental camp for just 20 boys in 1907 in England was now 105 years old with its worldwide members touching nearly 46 million.
While congratulating the achievers of the award, he said BS&G was a growing movement and should be considered important in the education curriculum.
Lotha said the movement was a voluntary, non-political and educational movement for young people to shape and build their character through inculcating the values of self-discipline, self reliance, social service, dignity of labor and patriotism that also engages in promoting self-less service to develop the community and serve the needy people.
Lotha also informed that the movement emphasizes to re-enforce the commitment to national integration, preservation of nature and environment and to enhance quality membership by spreading the message of peace and harmony.
Minister for urban development and higher education and president NSBSG, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu chaired the programme.
He remarked that the scouts and guides movement was very much part of educational movement which produces disciplined people who obey rules while discharging their duties to God and country.
He expressed hope that the achievers would strive for higher national award.
Earlier in the programme, V. Hekali Zhimomi, IAS vice president while NSBSG delivered the welcome address.
