Close on the heels of the NPCC and the NCP hurling allegations of anomalies in the construction of Chozuba-Phek road, the Chozuba Town Business Union (CTBU) and the RJD, in separate statements, Wednesday appealed to the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) to expedite the process of investigation.
CTBU president Vephizo Swuro and general secretary Vethitso Rhakho maintained that though the on-the-spot enquiry had been conducted long time back, authorities were yet to take action against the accused.
CTBU asserted it was seeking a response from the SVC as to what steps were initiated since April 2012 including the on-spot verification in June 2012 on behalf of the public who used the “riverbed like road” in the light of “someone” who withdrew money without executing the work.
The union pointed out that the issue affected not only the citizens of Thuvopisumi but also the whole Chozuba range as the road was the main link leading to Phek headquarters.
Referring to media reports, CTBU said funds for the construction of the road had been already “transferred into some individual account without even executing the work” and termed it as “pure daylight robbery”.
The union pointed out that the deplorable condition of the road affected “family bread earners” and demanded that SVC immediately book and arrest the accused and ensure that the road was constructed at the earliest.
CTBU also argued that since the work has not been completed after many years, authorities should cancel the present contract and open a fresh tender for competent firm/contractors to complete the work.
The union said that the current incompetent contractor should be “blacklisted” for not only tendering but also withdrawing money and not completing the work.
RJD unit: In another statement, RJD 19th A/C Phek Wednesday maintained that the government and the department had not paid due attention to the construction of Chozuba – Phek road into an all weather road.
RJD, Therutsuswu Village youth president Besusayi Swuro along with four others pointed out that the road was a vital route for people of Chetheba, Chozuba, Sekruzu and Tizu areas.
They claimed that through reliable sources that most of the sanctioned amount has been siphoned by an “elected legislator”. They demanded that the responsible investigating agency to treat this issue as “serious’ and book the offender according to the law.
