Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School (PVHSS), Dimapur, observed ‘Elders Day’ on November 7 at its jubilee auditorium coinciding with the birth anniversary of late Manik Bhattacharjee, founder secretary of the school. Vikyie Zhimomi, retired deputy secretary, Home, and S.K. Dutta, ex-chairman, Dimapur Town Committee, and a veteran public leader were felicitated on the occasion.
Introductory speech was delivered by Monoj Bhattachrajee, principal, PVHSS, who spoke on the important role played by the elders in the society while Vikyie Zhimomi, in his speech, expressed his gratitude to the organizers for felicitating him.
Assistant teachers, N. Dutta and Rahul Bhattacharjee, and two students also delivered speeches followed by an inter-school debate competition on the topic “Elders have more role to play in the construction of a good society”, in which Christian Higher Secondary School, St. Paul Higher Secondary School, Livingstone Foundation Higher Secomdary School, Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School and Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School participated.
In the debate competition, first prize was bagged by students of Livingstone Foundation Higher Secondary School, while the second and the third prizes went to Christian Higher Secondary School and St. Paul Higher Secondary Schools respectively.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by A.K Roy, assistant teacher.
