The ward committee of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) ward no. 3 which comprises of four colonies – United North Block ‘A’, United North Block ‘B’, Sun Rise Colony and Naga Colony have appealed to the government and department in-charge to shift the garbage dumping ground to a new location away from town area.
Ward committee members of ward No. 3 said the areas surrounding DMC dumping ground is inhabited by humans and since the land belonged to private individuals, settlement areound the area have been increasing, while on the other hand, dumping of garbage in the area has been causing a lot of health hazard especially air pollution and water pollution for which the residents are facing untold hardship.
Meanwhile, some of the residents said improper maintenance of the dumping ground was apparent as garbage dumped in its designated ground are scattered well beyond the boundary of the ground.
