Personnel of narcotic cell excise, manning Khuzama check gate, seized drugs worth around Rs. 70,000 and arrested one person Monday night.

Seized drugs included 19,000 capsules of spasmo proxyvon and 1200 capsules of nitrosun seized from a passenger taxi at Khuzama check gate.

The arrested person, reportedly a drug addict, has been identified as Md. Hasan (49) from Imphal east. Drugs were neatly stashed in a “ganapati packet” with a tag made in Kolkata.

Excise personnel also seized 700 cases of assorted IMFL from Peducha check gate on January 7. IMFL was seized from a truck and the driver, identified as Peken Singh, was arrested.

In another incident, 29 AR seized 30 kgs of ganja from railway platform, Dimapur from a person January 7. Accused, identified as one Sokun, and the contraband was handed over to excise personnel.

The commissioner of excise Maongwati Aier said that during this week alone the excise personnel seized two trucks loads of liquor along Kohima road.

The commissioner has lauded his personnel and expressed satisfaction for executing their duties up to the mark. It may be noted that nine major drugs cases have been detected after narcotic cell excise took over the Khuzama check gate in May 2012.

Meanwhile, excise duty party also seized 564 bottles of whisky from the possession of one Padam Sharma, son of Polanat Sharma on January 7 at Peducha check gate Kohima.

Also, on January 2, excise personnel seized 168 bottles of 750 ml whisky, 108 bottles of rum, 24 canned beer at Peducha check gate.

Accused in both the incidents were penalized under NLTP Act 89 and seized articles disposed at the office of Superintendent of excise and prohibition mlakhana, Kohima.
