Parliamentary secretary for technical education, science and technology and taxation, Tovihoto Ayemi Sunday said that culture defines one’s identity and cultural heritage. Speaking as the chief guest at the three-day 2nd Northeast Region Cultural Competition 2013, organized by Dimapur Bengali Samaj at Sree Sree Ram Thakur Sekashram, Railway Colony, Dimapur, which culminated on Sunday, Tovihoto said that since time immemorial, culture and tradition have been passed down by our ancestors, for which he was of the view that “culture” should not be lost but rather imbibed as a weapon in bringing peace and unity which was much needed at this juncture.
Tovihoto also added that such cultural competition would help in spreading cultural and social awareness among the youth that have been passed on to them.
Also stating that the kind of platform which was given to the young talents could make a difference to the society by reviving the “culture and traditions”,
He later urged the leaders of Dimapur Bengali Samaj to take forth the trends where people from diverse culture come together under one umbrella in order to pass on the message of love, peace and unity.
The programme was attended by leaders from different walks of life including president, Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum, Joseph Lemtur, as guest of honour, and other senior, women leaders of the NPF.
