Dimapur Phom Union (DPU) and Dimapur Phom Students’ Union (DPSU) vehemently condemned the rape of a minor girl by one Joshua Rhakho on September 14 at Naga United Village, Block-B, Diphupar area, Dimapur.
DPU general secretary Philip Buchem in a press release said the union was “appalled, humiliated and distressed” by the “heinous and beastly act” committed on a minor girl.
The union demanded the administration, judiciary and investigating agency to take immediate action against the accused, adding, that he should not be granted bail under any circumstances.
DPU urged the authority to expedite the probe with a sense of urgency without leaving any loopholes and demanded the prosecution of the accused to ensure that he was given a befitting punishment as per the law.
DPU also demanded that the case be handled by a fast track court to avoid lengthy litigation and that monetary compensation should be granted to the victim.
The union also wanted the authorities to notify the public on the action taken on the case so that justice was delivered in a transparent, fair and just manner.
DPU also lauded Naga United Village, Block-B village council for taking prompt action by handing over the accused to the police.
DPSU: Strongly condemning the rape of a minor, Dimapur Phom Students’ Union (DPSU) said it was “shocked” and “anguished” about the incident.
DPSU president Pahen Phom in a press release demanded that the accused who was reportedly “married” should be awarded befitting punishment as per the law and he should not be granted bail.
Lauding the Naga United Village, Block-B village council for apprehending the accused and handing him over to the Diphupar police station, DPSU also demanded action against the accused as per the customary law of the village.
