ICAR research complex for NEH Region, Nagaland centre with an objective of “food for all” and providing nutritional and income security for the farming community as well as rural youths is popularizing its low cost scientific and organic mushroom production technology.
Mushrooms have been providing the way to good health with nutritional security as well as mushroom production has been proved to be a profitable venture for subsidiary income.
Keeping this in view, day long training on “Mushroom production and value addition for livelihood improvement” was organized by ICAR, Nagaland Centre at Longleng and Wokha districts, under the Tribal Sub Plan project.
Altogether 70 participants representing Hukpang, Pongching, Orangkong,Yachem, Yongam, Sakshi and Pongo villages of Longleng districts as well as participants from Wokha town area, Wokha village, Longsa village and Okotsa village of Wokha participated in the training.
The trainees gained knowledge of different species of oyster mushroom suitable for growing in different season, low cost organic mushroom cultivation, nutritional value, distinction between poisonous and non-poisonous mushroom and value addition. The trainees had practical experience of mushroom bed preparation.
The resource persons of the training were Scientist Plant Pathology ICAR Tasvina R. Borah, SMS, KVK Longleng Lireni Kikon and technical officer of ICAR Joseph Kikon. The programme was concluded by distribution of mushroom spawn packets and mushroom bags as critical inputs to the trainees.
