Deo advocates conservation of wildlife

Parliamentary Secretary for higher education and SCERT, Deo Nukhu Saturday called for the youth and students of Zhavame to strongly come together and fight for conservation of wildlife and lauded the village for receiving the Biodiversity Award from the Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) along with two other villages in Phek district.
Addressing the 54th general session of the Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) at Pame Tsudu, Deo urged the village community to maintain its biodiversity while recalling how it was so natural and easy to hear birds chirping and spot them flying across in the area, in the olden days, but are no more common sight in the present day.
He also stressed on the need for vocational studies and urged the students to pursue their goals regardless of whether it was to do with music or fashion and the like. Deo also said the central government was giving lots of importance on education and further called upon the students to study as much as they can while also observing that many students are too lazy today to pursue higher education.
The parliamentary secretary further said that with hard work and patience, one could achieve a lot of things and with reference to the ZSU theme, “Education, a tool for competition”, he commented that one must also compete using education as a tool. Stating that the Razeba area was yet to produce an IAS or an IPS officer, he encouraged the gathering by saying that although they are a minority the area should soon produce such officers in the elite service. “No matter what, don’t withdraw”, he exhorted.
Zhavame Village Council Chairman, P. Paul Dukru in his exhortation, called upon the students to have the determination to achieve their ambitions while pointing out that “hard work” is an absolute necessity. “Without education, you can do nothing”, he asserted. He also said that in the 1951 census, Zhavame was the biggest village in Phek district but following an epidemic during the mid 1950s, a lot of development in several areas has been hampered. However, he said, the village community has been able to fill that gap today which is visible in the success story of farming, the village population and excelling students.  Therefore, he called for more cooperation from everybody to further enhance the growth and progress of the village.
Meanwhile, the first medical officer from the village, Dr. Ruokuovinuo Rachel Krocha, in her sharing expressed that in the olden times, whoever performed the feast of merit had a voice in the decision making body but today, she said, if you want to be part of the decision making, one has to work hard and prove one’s worth. “Even if you are struggling, you will bear the fruit”, she added.
“Do not be afraid to take risks; be good students, do not bunk classes, it is not cool; do not neglect the difficult thing, if you are finding difficulty in one subject, give extra time for that, feel free to raise questions and respect your teachers no matter how big you become in life”, she advised. The young doctor also stressed that one’s high school foundation is very important and urged upon the students to set timetables, and make the maximum out of high school.
Awards for merit students were also given during the occasion. This included students who secured distinction in several subjects during the HSLC and HSSLC examination. Five candidates from the village who got through NPSC during the current year were also acknowledged.
Highlights of the event included invocation by Ngopi Rhi, Pastor, CRC, Zhavame, welcome song by higher secondary students, presidential address by Tho-o Shupao, special song by Thorhü Movi & Paovi Shupao, act of blessings for the newly elected office bearers by Dizü Shupao, Pastor ZBC and closing prayer by Liasuo Krocha, Women Pastor, ZBC while Mosonyi Domeh and Shorhü Shupao were the compeers.
