MLA & Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) chairman Amenba Yaden visited the upcoming municipal solid waste management (SWM) project site at Lerie, Kohima February 24.
Kohima city had been facing a lot of waste disposal problems because of not finding suitable waste dumping site, which is becoming a major issue not only in Kohima but in other cities/ towns.
To mitigate this problem, a Solid Waste Management Facility project was started in 2012 at Lerie, Kohima under the State Investment Program Management and Implementation Unit (SIPMIU).
This solid waste management facility, once completed, would segregate the municipal wastes, where compostable components would be used for making manure while the rest would be disposed by sanitary land filling. The project is expected to be commissioned by the end of the year.
The site engineers explained the technical parts of the landfill and its management after completion to MLA. He appealed to the implementing agencies to expedite the works within the stipulated time.
