Workshop for archaeologists of Northeast India commences

Eight -day regional workshop for Archaeologists of Northeast India under the theme “experimental Lithic knapping and microwear studies”  organized by department of history and Archaeology Nagaland university Kohima and Indian council of historical research (ICHR) New Delhi has begun Saturday at administrative Training Institute (ATI) Kohima.
Pro-vice Chancellor Nagaland university Kohima campus professor Lanununsang in his address as the chief guest of the inaugural function said society development would not be possible without archaeology studies and guide by it.
He said archaeology excavation and exploration was very important so as to know many basic facts finding in research for the scholars and urged the history and archaeology students to explore many unexplored in the region.
Pro-vice chancellor challenged the Nagaland university students of history and archaeology to take advantage of the modern technology and come forward with sophisticated research which was very significant at this stage.
He encouraged the Naga students to study the Naga oral cultures and tradition base from the archaeology and also felicitated the young students to study this subject. Lanununsang also acknowledged and appreciated the work of late professor T.C. Sharma for his enormous contribution towards the archaeology subject for Northeast and Nagaland. Earlier, the programme was led by Dr. Ketholesie HoD department of history & Archaeology NU, welcome address was delivered by Dr. Tiatoshi Jamir program coordinator department of history & Archaeology NU, Vetahülü Sapu and Thukulü Curha presented a Chakhesang folk song.
The chief guest also released book- 50 years after Daojali Hading “emerging perspective in the Archaeology of Northeast India”   essays a commemorative volume in honour of late professor Tarun Chandra Sharma edited by Dr. Tiatoshi Jamir and Manjil Hararika. 
Around 50 students of history and Archaeology from Northeastern states, Rinu Devi the wife of late T.C Sharma, Rinu’s son, professor and lecturer of Archaeology from various colleges and others attended the programme.
The resource persons for the workshop includes professor Shanti Pappu department of Archaeology Deccan college Pune and also secretary , Sharma centre for heritage education Chennai, Dr. Akhilesh Kumar director –programs, Sharma centre for heritage education Chennai, professor Prakask Sinha department of ancient history, culture and Archaeology university of Allahabad and Uday Kumar Sharma centre for heritage education Chennai.
