In view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, and the mode of conduct which came into effect on March 5, Dimapur excise department has intensified checking at various check gates in and around Dimapur.
On Tuesday, the district excise enforcement party seized 40kgs of ganja from Chumukedima excise check gate. According to superintendent of excise, K.Y. Sangtam, the ganja was seized from a maruti car (AS-23-C-2514). In this connection one person indentified as Joseph Poumai (21) was arrested.
The contraband was brought from Senapati and to be disposed at Dimapur.
Sangtam said that excise department would step up the checking in order to curb illegal flow of liquor in the state during the Lok Sabha polls.
Earlier, on March 15, excise narcotic enforcement duty party led by deputy superintendent of excise (narcotic cell) I Vikikhe Aomi raided different “pockets” of Dimapur and seized 615 bottles of different brand of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). The seized liquor was estimated at Rs. 1.85 lakh (street value).
