Responding to Action Committee against Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland press statement published on June 18 excise commissioner Maongwati Aier reiterated that the destruction of the liquor on May 26 was done on the “strength” of the destruction board report headed by deputy commissioner of excise in the presence of district administration, police, para military forces and NGOs.
He maintained that after receiving report from ACAUT members on the same day at around 2 p.m. that the entire consignment was not brought to the destruction site, the commissioner said that he enquired and verified the matter “departmentally” on May 27 onwards.
In connection with this, Aier said a rejoinder was issued on June 2 that after verification of the office records responsibility would be fixed on the officials concerned.
Accordingly on June 3, Aier said he issued a show cause notice to the head of the Dimapur excise district as to why disciplinary proceedings would not be initiated against him for wrong information to the destruction board and misleading the office of the commissioner of excise.
The commissioner of excise also reiterated that “erring officials and staff” would be prosecuted after completion of enquiry by the government.
