ATMA Kohima organizes farmer inter-district exposure tour

ATMA Kohima conducted an inter-district exposure tour cum farmers training from June 20-21 wherein the group visited cabbage fields at Tsütsume village and kiwi farm school at Pfütsero.  During the tour ATMA farm school teacher Ngupetso Kapfo shared his success stories of kiwi cultivation besides teaching the visiting farmers in detail about the techniques of kiwi cultivation.  Mention may be made that Kapfo is now a successful kiwi farmer with 1200 kiwi plants in an area of 2 ha kiwi orchard which he started in the year 2007.  On the second day, the group visited KVK Phek at Porba village under ICAR, NRC Mithun Jharnapani where farmers had interactions and farm visits with various subject matter specialists Liza Barva Bharali (SMS, Plant protection), Hannah K (SMS, Agronomy), Esther Longkumer (SMS, Soil Science), Dr. Debojyoti Borkotoky (SMS, Animal science) and Keniseto Chucha (Farm manager).  The farmers had a firsthand information about the benefits and techniques of vermin composting, paddy azolla, fish integrated with ducks and piggery, goatery and rabbitary besides Mithun rearing and management.
