Two OST centers inaugurated in Wokha

Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) centers were inaugurated on June 18 at CHC Bhandari, Wokha by Dr. Rose SPO HIV & TB representing NSACS. It may be noted that Wokha now has total of three centers.
Dr. Rose in his address stated the benefit, functions, and activities of OST centers, where non legal drug was replaced by legal drug, to do away drugs and HIV & AIDS.  He said that though Nagaland being a small state, National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Delhi, had approved to set up 33 OST centers.
In Nagaland almost all the OST centers were doing immensely well and apart from daily doses of OST drug, OST would be equipped with small recreational packages also, Dr. Rose added.
Another OST center at Sanis CHC was rolled out on June 19 in presence of SDO (Civil) NchumbemoEzung. Short speeches were delivered by Dr. Enrithung, CMO, Wokha.
Speaking at the programme, SDO (Civil), Nchumbemo said that collective efforts and cooperation from community including line department, churches and civil societies was required as Sanis town was the main junction bordering Assam and number of villages.
Programme manager, Picho, representing Zion Welfare Society, Baghty, extended gratitude to NSACS for the initiative while district programme officer, DAPCU, Lichumo Odyuo, asked the TI NGOS as well as the OST center staffs to be ready to face the challenges and to include OST activities in their monthly work plan.
