ACAUT has put forth queries to the chief secretary and the director Horticulture with regard to the admission issue to YS Parmar University.
In a press release, ACAUT media cell said the statement was “necessitated following the justification put forth by the department of Horticulture in nominating Imnatemsu Imchen for the course of Bsc (Horti) in YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Himachal Pradesh in place of the rightful candidate Ms. Watinaro A. Imsong.”
ACAUT asked when the horticulture director/department was not the competent authority, “on what basis was Imnatemsu nominated by the director?”
ACAUT said “since there was no state JEE in 2014 nor did Imnatemsu appear for AIPMT, on what criteria was he selected?”
“Did the Horticulture department, call for interview for selection of students to B.Sc (Horti) course in YSP Univ? If so, why wasn’t it advertised? If so, isn’t it violative of laid down rules which states that only deptt of Technical Education can do so?
In this regard, ACAUT questioned on what was the need of State Common Selection Board if Horticulture directorate could arbitrarily nominate students?
After the issue was brought to the notice of the directorate of Technical Education, ACAUT said the department (H&TE) wrote to YSP University to cancel the admission of Imnatemsu. ACAUT said the H&TE department had also explained in the letter that “the state government has decided to adopt the AIPMT as the basis for selection and nomination of candidates for admission into medical and allied courses.”
This point, ACAUT said made it clear that the contention of the Horticulture department’s clarification that BSc (Horti) did not fall under AIPMT was bereft of truth. ACAUT urged the state government to write to both NEC and YSP University to clear the mess. ACAUT said the issue “has alienated and disillusioned the vast majority of students and youth belonging to humble families who see no future with such leaders at the helm”.
DAYO: Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (DAYO) has said that the organization has taken serious note of the “discrimination meted out to Miss. Watinaro A Imsong.”
DAYO president K. Longri Imchen and asst. gen. secretary Meyatoba said another candidate occupied the seat allotted to Watinaro “by virtue of being nominated by the director of Horticulture, which is considered unprecedented and arbitrary.”
DAYO said that a notification by the H&TE department clearly stated that “the selection of students for the state reserved seats in UG Engineering and MBBS and allied courses would be on the basis of JEE (main) and All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT)”
DAYO said considering the serious nature of “discrepancy and unfairness”, it demanded the concerned authority to withdraw the nomination of the candidate and “ensure Watinaro obtains her deserving admission.”
