Unidentified miscreants shot dead a non-Naga male while another person was injured Sunday wee hours. Dimapur police recovered the dead body from the DMC dumping ground in Burma camp area, Dimapur.
The deceased who was reportedly blind folded and shot dead has been identified as one Nantu Saikia and the injured as one Nazi Uddin Ahmed, a driver.
Police said that they had received information at around 1.30 a.m. Sunday from the Gaonbura of United Colony, North Block ‘B’, Burma camp about a non-Naga male found injured.
Police rushed to the spot and with the help of the Gaonbura, the injured was shifted to District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) and later to a private hospital.
Upon questioning the injured person, police was informed that his friend (Saikia) was blindfolded and abducted by three persons and kept captive in the same locality.
However, when police rushed to rescue the abducted person, his body was found at the DMC dumping site, Sunday wee hours. One 7.65mm calibre empty case was recovered from the spot, police said.
According to the driver’s statement, police said three persons on September 19 had hired a white Scorpio (AS-04J-007) from Sibsagar to travel to Borpathar. However, the three occupants diverted the vehicle to Dimapur. The deceased was present with his friend (driver) when the trio had hired the vehicle, police said.
Police suspected that the modus operandi was to snatch the vehicle. However, investigation was still on to ascertain the facts, police informed.
The dead body, after conducting formalities, was later handed over to the family members. The injured person was also shifted to Assam for medical aid by family members. The vehicle which was recovered from Burma Camp area was handed over to the owner, police said.
