Government High School Longsa Tuesday celebrated its golden jubilee at the school premises with advisor SIRD & chairman NSMDC, Merentoshi R Jamir as the chief guest and additional development commissioner, planning & coordination, Temsuwati Longkümer as the guest of honor.
In his address, Merentoshi R Jamir acknowledged the forefather and the pioneers of the school who with “great vision” established the school which had produced officers and leaders in the society.
He also congratulated the school authority, the Longsa village council, teachers and students for achieving attaining the great milestone.
While pointing out that the school has benefitted not only the Longsa villagers but also the neighbouring Sümi villages under Zunheboto district, Merentoshi encouraged the school authority to work harder so that the school could continue to benefit not only the Longsa villagers, the neighbouring Sümi villages but even the nearby villages under Tuensang district.
He urged the school authority, the village council and the community not to forget the “vision” of the forefathers and the pioneers but to keep it alive and achieve greater heights.
Guest of honour, Temsuwati Longkümer, an alumnus of the school, inspired the students with his life story.
He narrated that he was also from a farmer’s family, who studied hard and by God’s grace and through hard work, achieved his present position. Appreciating the good results of the school, especially the ‘cent percent’ matriculation result in the year 2013, Temsuwati challenged the school authority, teachers and students to make Government High School Longsa as a model government high school in the state.
Others who spoke at the programme include deputy director of economics & statistics, R Takamanen Jamir and Longsa Village council chairman, R Lanu. GHS Longsa headmaster Talewapang welcomed the gathering while Pastor Longsa Baptist Church invoked God’s blessing on the programme. Sümi students of GHS Longsa presented a spirited traditional dance while the GHSL students presented traditional song “Ongmeshang Ken” (echo of love).
Host of dignitaries from the district administration and police attended the golden jubilee celebration. It may be noted that the GHS Longsa, which started off as a private ME School Longsa, was taken over by the government on February 24, 1964 where classes were up to standard VI.
The school provides quality education not only to the Longsa village students but also the students from neighbouring Sümi villages under Zunheboto district.
