Angamis celebrate Sekrenyi festival at Kohima village

Sekrenyi-the premier festival of Angami, Nagas was celebrated Tuesday with pomp and gaiety by Angamis across the state.
In Kohima, the Khrietho Peli – No -11, P Khel Kohima village organized “Kiahe riitso” was attended by president, Northern Angami Public Organization (NAPO) Vilie-o Rutsa as the chief guest.
Inaugurating the “Kiahe riitso”, Rutsa congratulated the Khrietho Peli for organizing the event and hoped that with such kind event being organized during the Sekrenyi festival, people will be able to know their culture, traditional and history to a large extend.
Meanwhile the Ketoukhrie Peli – No -11 , T. Khel Kohima Village also  organized the “Sekrenyi  Kratsii” at Tsutuonuomia Zie , T. Khel ground .
In both the places the men and women folk of their respective Peli’s sang traditional folk songs, which attracted huge attention from many audiences throughout the day.
 Large donation board were also placed where many well-wishers also donated both in cash and kind.
It was learned that a Japanese scholar also visited both the places and took keen interest to know the history and cultures of the Angami, Nagas.
Sekrenyi is celebrated by the Angami community in the month of February after the full-moon every year. It is observed to ensure good health for the body and soul for the community in the coming year. Hence, it is also regarded as the feast of Ablution; thereby Sekrenyi is observed in two phases- the ritual and the feast.
