With the first case of Swine Flu virus detected in Dimapur, the medical department has been alerted so as to undertake urgent measures to tackle any eventuality of spread of the virus.
The detection of the swine flu disease was revealed by deputy director health and family welfare, Tiasunep. He told Nagaland Post, that the virus was detected after a Naga female tested positive for H1N1 on February 16 at District hospital Dimapur. He said the patient, reportedly working in Chennai had arrived Dimapur via Kolkata on February 13 . When the female began showing symptoms such as fever, fatigue, vomiting etc, she went for check up at the Dimapur Civil Hospital on February 14.
Owing to the symptoms, the doctors kept the patient in an isolated ward in the hospital after taking blood samples. The blood samples were then sent to Dibrugarh on February 15 for examination. It was on Monday evening, February 16, that the test results confirmed that the female had swine flu virus.
Since then, the patient has been kept in an isolation ward in Dimapur District Hospital and all precautions taken to ensure that the virus was not spread. Tiasunep said that the patient could “most probably” be discharged after one or two days when her health condition stabilized.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tiasunup he appealed to public not to panic as the situation was under control with all safety precautions taken against spread of the disease.
He said the patient had probably got the virus from outside the state and therefore, there was no need for panic.
