Governor greets women

State Governor, PB Archaya, has conveyed greetings and best wishes to the women of Nagaland in particular and country in general on the occasion of International Women’s Day celebration.
Archaya said International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities and time to uphold women’s achievements, recognize challenges, and focus greater attention on women’s rights and gender equality to mobilize all people to do their part.
He maintained that women were the real architect of the society and that women need to be empowered with education and employment in order to pave way for a better society. He said women’s economic independence could lead them to empowerment and added that it must be our “prime objective”.
While pointing out that crime against women are on rise particularly in the country and there were several challenges that were plaguing issues on women’s rights, he said we need to address the challenges in a proper manner to empower women and also to wipe out discrimination against women.
Acharya said women were playing bigger role in many fields and that Naga women are second to none by contributing towards progress of the society as government employees, teachers, doctors, nurses, technocrats, etc.
He reminded that empowerment of women and equality, liberty and dignity are the sacred rights of women and not a privilege that they should seek. He has conveyed appreciation to all women who are the backbone of Naga society and saluted all the women in the country.
