
Parliamentary secretary for municipal affairs and economics & statistics R. Tohanba has appealed to the staff and officials of directorate of municipal affairs to keep in good with all the government departments to provide good facilities to the citizens.
He was addressing the first departmental meeting of the newly established Nagaland directorate of municipal affairs at the conference hall of municipal directorate here Saturday. Tohanba said to provide better facilities to the citizens of the three municipal councils and 16 town councils, there should be adequate water supply, uninterrupted power supply, good sanitation, good healthcare systems and others. For this, he said the directorate of municipal affairs must have a good contact with PHE, power, health and other departments, adding that without the departmental help it would not be possible. Pointing out that the municipal affairs was the nodal agency of all the government departments, Tohanba said as all the departmental facilities could be provided to the citizens through the municipality affairs.
He further appealed to all employees of municipal affairs to realize their responsibilities to provide better facilities as per rights of the citizens.
At the same time, Tohanba urged them to work hard to streamline the collection of good revenue and improve its function to make itself sustainable so towns become smart cities. Speaking as guest of honour, secretary of municipal affairs Dr. Maongwati Aier called upon the officials of the directorate to gather thorough knowledge of the Municipal Act and the rights so that no other departments would take advantage on the rights of Municipal Affairs, as the machineries needed were being purchased by the other departments.
Secretary suggested that HUDCO affairs should be dealt by the Municipal Affairs alone. He also stressed on the reforms in the Municipal Affairs and the Municipal Act. Dr. Maongwati Aier further emphasized the need of the election commission in the department, which being done by the state election department.
The function was chaired by the additional director of municipal affairs Dr. Toshimaren Ozukum, who also highlighted activities of the department.
