Dimapur Govt. College needs to be developed: Deo Nukhu

Parliamentary secretary for higher and technical education, Deo Nukhu said Dimapur being a cosmopolitan city it was important to develop Dimapur Government College.
Speaking at the inauguration of a multi-purpose indoor stadium-cum-49th freshers’ day at DGC here on Wednesday, Nukhu said with the opening of the indoor stadium, students would now be able to utilize it for various activities. 
The parliamentary secretary also disclosed that proposal for introducing Science stream in the college has been submitted to the government and expressed the hope that it would be accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).     
Exhorting the students to be clear about the purpose of their studies, Nukhu urged them to be proficient in the subject matter they had chosen.  He also reminded the students to make use of library facilities as learning and new knowledge was ever expanding.
Higher education director Dr. Norbert Noraho, who graced the occasion as guest of honour, compared the students to raw precious stones, which needed to be polished so their values could be enhanced. 
He also hoped that the new auditorium would be the place where the students would be moulded and trained to face a successful future.
Stating that students have to face stiff competition in every field, Noraho said they needed to think differently by getting polished and skilled for any job or business.
He therefore, urged them to keep upgrading themselves as life was a process of continuous learning. Noraho also advised the freshers to identify area of talents and utilize their time accordingly.
In her welcome address, DGC principal Kuholi Chisi expressed gratitude to the UGC and the government for sponsoring the indoor stadium. 
Informing that the Dimapur Government College would be completing 50 years in 2016, she was hopeful that NAAC would validate the college before the momentous occasion. 
Earlier, invocation and dedication was officiated by Dr. Jamedi Longkumer while speech on behalf of the freshers was delivered by Nilo Zhimomi. 
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by associate professor Bendangsangba. 
Other special features included bollywood melody by Nanwang Konyak, talent presentation by Inato and Puloka, Imliyanger and Kuputoli, musical presentation titled “the champion” and a special song by Bendangchuba. 
Earlier, awards to successful and meritorious students were presented by the chief guest.  Dr. Hokishe Sema Award (Arts) given away by the family of Late Dr. Hokishe Sema was bagged by Akali Sema along with a cash prize; L. T. Yepthomi Award (Commerce) was bagged by Asish Chakraborty along with a cash prize. 
Commendation certificates for highest scorer in political science (sponsored by political science department) were awarded to Theau and Phom jointly while the others included Imtikumer Longchar, H. Kahoto Sumi, Abenthung, Chipeni Patton and Chingmei Konyak. 
Wangyat Wangsu and Tovikali H. Tuccu were adjudged Mr. and Miss. freshers respectively.
