
A major fire outbreak was averted in the intervening night of November 21 and 22, while residents of the locality were sound asleep but for the alertness of ‘D’ Coy. Patrol party. The patrol party on their way to duty just after midnight noticed a brewing inferno and alerted the sleeping residents and neighbours.
A press release by head GB United Colony ward-20, Imna Longkumer stated that even before the residents could wake up the patrol party had already informed the fire and emergency services, disaster management service and police thana of the impending disaster. It stated that one IR personnel putting his life in danger fearlessly jumped into a burning kitchen and retrieved an LPG cylinder from the inferno.
Due to the commotion the residents could not thank the IR patrol party who had continued on for duty after putting out the fire, stated the release. It therefore sincerely appreciates the said ‘D’ Coy 14 IRB for their yeoman service which had averted a major catastrophe that could have affected many residents and neighbouring families.
