Solar lamps distribution camp under the initiative of Mon forest division was organized at Nynynu village in the presence of village development board (VDB) members from neighbouring villages of Wetting, L/Wasa and Longzang under Longshen forest range.
According to a release by divisional forest officer, Mon Division: Mon, the solar lamps were distributed free of cost to every household in those villages which are in the remote border areas of Mon. During the second phase some 6 to 7 villages would be covered in Mon district.
The efforts toward lighting up un-electrified villages have been made possible because of the generous donations of solar lamps by a Trust, Eco-Solutions, an NGO based in Mumbai.
It said the Indian co-ordinator of the Trust, Yatendra Agarwal has agreed to donate 2,000 solar lamps free of cost when told about the miseries of the people living in the Indo-Burma border areas, without electricity and basic amenities like road, water supply, health care etc.
The forest department took the initiative with an aim to mitigate the sufferings of the people living in those remote corners where development does not reach from either India or Myanmar.
The chief angh of Ngnynu village on behalf of all the beneficiaries has expressed his happiness and immense appreciation to the forest department and the NGO based in Mumbai for the noble cause.
The solar lamps have been of great benefit for the people especially for school going children who can now study at night.
