Kohima Law College team members led by its professor-in-charge, Kezhokhoto Savi conducted citizen rights awareness at Konyak Baptist Church Kohima (KBCK) on August 27, covering various topics.
The team spoke on National Food Security Act 2013 which is being implemented in two districts, Dimapur and Kohima and yet to be implemented in other districts. Team said that Kohima & Dimapur implementation was at the initial stage and the concerned department has to work more harder especially in identifying the beneficiaries to the extent that no genuine beneficiaries would be deprived such the low income families including church workers and missionaries.
On a topic – Food Safety & Standard Act 2006, the team presented that over the years the need for change and modification of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 & Rules 1955 was felt and thus the Food Safety and standard Act 2006, was made for laying down the science based standards for articles of food and to regulate the manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of food, to ensure safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
In Nagaland the State Food Authority is Food Safety Commissioner and the Food Safety commissioner is commissioner & secretary to the govt. of Nagaland, department of Health & Family Welfare with two programme wings.
The team members extolled that the acts were of vital importance to all consumer and food business operators and aims to provide confidence to consumers that the food they buy and eat would do no harm to them and they are protected from adulteration and fraud.
