YOCW meeting held at Kohima

Nagaland government on Monday held its second meeting for the ‘Year of Construction Workers (YOCW)’ headed by parliamentary secretary, Labour and Employment, Mmhonlumo Kikon as the convenor. YOCW is aimed “to train and equip the work-force for the state”. 
Mmhonlumo Kikon announced that a Nagaland Construction Academy would be launched. A certification curriculum for training of construction workers has also been designed by the government of Nagaland. The certificate course for construction workers would begin immediately and unemployed youths of Nagaland would be benefited. The committee will also meet with the NCSU for collaborating with the private partners.
The YOCW is under the initiative of chief minister, T.R. Zeliang who had declared 2016 as the ‘Year of Construction Worker’ at the Nagaland Youth Summit held in March 2016 at Kohima. YOCW would prioritize skilling and encouraging the local youths of Nagaland in the construction sector and securing them 100% placement in the local market. 
The meeting was attended by chief secretary Pankaj Kumar, and chaired by M. Patton commissioner & secretary, Labour & Employment Skills Development & Entrepreneurship, M. Sangtam, director and other senior officers from the department represented the government apart from Zynorique Initiatives and YouthNet.
