A pack of organic and garden fresh black tea from “Cold Mountain” has become a hit among festive goers at the ongoing Hornbill festival due to its defining qualities—100 % organic, free of caffeine and harmful chemicals and preservatives.
Interacting with Nagaland Post the 25-year old young proprietor of Cold Mountain, Lanuakum Imchen said the main reason for his initiative in making organic tea was to promote Nagaland tea and also to educate the young educated youth about organic tea.
“With determination, nothing is impossible,” Imchen said as he narrated his journey of making the organic tea.
He said a cousin staying in China inspired him to make the organic tea as China is the homeland of tea plants and is accredited with having first introduced tea into daily life.
Owning 10 hectares of tea garden, Imchen took the challenge and discovered himself in many areas and after doing intense research outside the state he started his organic tea products with just Rs.3000.
He said the officials from Tea Board of India who visited the stall took sample of the “Cold Mountain.”
This Nagaland tea comes from a cold and virgin hill of Longkhum village under Ongpangkong range in Mokokchung district, situated at an altitude of 1846 meter above sea level, the highest altitude of Mokokchung district of Nagaland.
Imchen said he prepares the tea in Mokokchung and does the packing in Dimapur.
Amongst many varieties, handpicked, handmade organic white tea is one of the rarest varieties of tea while white tea is the least processed tea and has the highest antioxidant levels among all teas and it help in lowering blood pressure, cholesterol etc.
Another tea was the lemon grass tea that has many beneficial medicinal properties including anti-inflammatory, anti-depression, anti-cancer, etc.
Silver needle tea is one of the rarest and most expensive varieties of tea that has a delicate slightly sweet and refreshing flavor.
A tea aficionado and an innovative entrepreneur, Imchen produce Red tea, Black tea, White (silver needle) tea, Green tea, White tea with lemon grass, White tea with chamomile tea, White tea with mint, spear mint and pepper mint, Black tea with natural spices, cinnamon, bay leaf, green cardamom, clove, black pepper and ginger.
Initially, Imchen sold his products on order and online, and this is his maiden foray in the Hornbill festival. With the passion to promote Nagaland tea, Imchen made all his products very cheap and said it proved him well as many visitors returned after a trial of the organic tea.
