ATMAs conduct various activities across Nagaland

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) has been conducting various activities in different districts of the state throughout the year 2016. Some of its activities are highlighted below. 
ZUKHESHE: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Aghunaqa Block conducted capacity building programme for women farmers and SHGs of Zuheshe village on November 29 on the topic “Value addition of fishes”.
Resource person, FD, Dept of Fisheries Adizeno, demonstrated and explained on the topic and said that most of the SHGs at Zuheshe village are involved in various farming activities and fishery is one such.
Majority of the SHGs consist of fish ponds and practice aquaculture these days but apart from selling fishes directly in markets they should also have profound knowledge in its value addition methods that would certainly help them in revenue generation, she added.
Further ATM, Niuland Block Sentibenla, spoke on the topic of “Ginger cultivation” and also demonstrated on “Ginger candy preparation”.
CHARE: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Chare Block, Tuensang conducted training and demonstration at Kiding village on November 29.
Resource person Block Technology Manager, Chare block Dr. T. Arenmongla, demonstrated on air layering techniques, lychee and mango, package and practices of garlic and colocassia and how to prepare the Bordeaux mixture and its application to affected crops.
Quick Lime and Copper sulphate were also distributed to the farmers.
Altogether 14 farmers from Kiding village attended the programme.
TUENSANG:  ATMA Tuensang conducted district level exhibition cum sales day in collaboration with ECS on November 3 at high school ground Tuensang. Exhibition of various tools and implements were displayed to impart technological input to the farmers. Various SHGs under ATMA Tuensang participated. Groups award were also given to the progressive SHG group.
NIULAND: Agricultural Technology Management Agency, Niuland block conducted capacity building programme for SHGs at Niuland town on November 30.
Resource person SMS (Animal Science), KVK (ICAR), Jharnapani Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, spoke on the topic “Poultry management” and said that chicken production under the free range and semi-intensive system is one of the viable alternatives for improving the livelihood of rural household which provide additional income and supplement protein intake in rural and tribal folks.
She elaborated on the management techniques of poultry birds that included low cost housing, feeding, body weights, survivability percentage, egg production, cost benefit analysis, control of diseases like Ranikhet, IBD, fowl pox and to control it through vaccination and technical support.
She also highlighted on the success stories of poultry farmers from other blocks and districts and encouraged the participants to practice the same.
KVK: One-day training programme cum demonstration under National Food Security Mission (NFSM) –pulses (field pea) was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kohima on November 17 at the KVK demonstration farm.
In the programme, SMS agronomy, Imtisenla elaborated on the package of practices on pea cultivation and also the method of inoculation of bio-fertilizers (Rhizobium). 
Under the rabi season NFSM campaign pea seeds HUDP-15 and azad varieties  along with bio fertilizers were distributed to the selected beneficiaries belonging to Tseophenyu, Ziphenyu, Tseminyu village and Sewanyu village under Tseminyu sub-division and under Chiephobozou sub-division Botza village was covered under the programme while Kigwema and Phesema villages under Jakhama Sub division.
DIMAPUR: KVK Peren organised a training programme on winter maize and vegetable crop production at Nkwareu Village on November 29.
During the training programme various topics on cultivation practices of hybrid maize, French bean and cole crops were disseminated to the farmers followed by practical demonstration on grafting of fruit trees like guava and citrus. 
Measures like spraying of vegetables with Neem Kernel Extract for controlling aphids, application of furadan in banana, collection of infected leaves of brinjal in containers/buckets to prevent insect eggs from falling to the ground and reinfecting plants, and practical advice on how to determine the toxicity levels of insecticides and pesticides by red, blue, green and yellow were taught to the farmers by KVK personnel and scientist of ICAR Nagaland Centre, Medziphema. Interaction and discussion hour was also held, where farmers raised questions on different problems. Seeds of Hybrid maize, French bean, cabbage, broccoli and garden pea were distributed to the beneficiaries. Altogether 30 farmers from the village attended the programme.
WOKHA: Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Chukitong Block Wokha conducted field day on winter vegetables on December 14, at Yanthamo Village. Importance and concept of field day was shared by SMS KVK Wokha, Mhalo Tungoe. Vegetables farmers of the block shared their experience and profit earned through vegetable cultivation. Altogether 28 farm women attended the field day programme.
AGHUNAQA: Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Aghunaqa block conducted Kisan Ghosthi programme on December 12, at Zutoi village, integrated farm school.
At the programme, BTM, Aghunaqa block Demalu Hasnusa, spoke on the topic of “Application methods of micronutrients and Biofertilizers”. He said that micronutrients were essential for plant growth and plays an important role in balanced crop nutrition including boron (B), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), zinc (Zn), nickel (Ni) and chloride (Cl). 
A lack of any one of the micronutrients in the soil can limit growth, even when all other nutrients are present in adequate amounts, he added. 
Hasnusa directed the farmers on the amount of micronutrient doses to be mixed with water before spraying it directly in fields or on standing crops. 
Later, the farmers were distributed micronutrients and biofertilizer packets. Earlier, the programme was chaired by ATM Aghunaqa block Moakumzuk.
