Drawing attention to the violence and disruption of life going on in Manipur, the Overseas Naga Association (ONA) has expressed its deep concern over the issue.
A press note by ONA president Visier Sanyü and secretary general Paul Pimomo stated that the issue could be better resolved through negotiations of mutual respect and not through force and intimidation.
ONA stated its solidarity with the Nagas and non-Nagas who were suffering on account of the events in Manipur. It pointed out that the divide-and-rule forces among and outside the Meiteis and the Nagas who stand to gain from disunity in the region would use every opportunity and resource to their advantage. ONA expressed that it was imperative for both sides to take on the difficult but necessary journey of learning to live together as friendly and respectful neighbors.
It further appealed both Nagas and Meiteis to do everything they could to let good sense prevail at this critical time, and for the future. ONA was confident that both sides and all the parties involved would do everything they could to mend and improve relations in the coming new year.
